Obituary of Alberta Waugh

Burlington, Colorado resident and former Arapahoe, Colorado resident Alberta Bernice Waugh passed away on May 15, 2016 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington. She was 100 years old. Alberta was born to Frank Wesley McAllister and Delphia E Stephenson McAllister in Russell County, Kansas on January 24, 1916. The family moved to Wallace County in 1918. She received her elementary and high school education in Sharon Springs. She later went to Fort Hays College and received her teaching degree. She taught in rural schools, in Sharon Springs grade school and in Weskan grade school. Alberta taught for a total of ten years. Phillip Arthur Waugh and Alberta were united in marriage on January 1, 1942 in the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. They lived on the farm south of Weskan until the spring of 1946 when they bought and moved to a farm northeast of Arapahoe, Colorado, known as the Norton farm. To this union two sons were born, Rex Eugene and Max Charles. Aurthur passed away December 23, 1971 in St Joseph hospital. Alberta moved to Burlington in April, 1979. She worked as a “pink lady” at the hospital until the organization closed down. She also donated time to quilting at the United Methodist Church in Burlington where she was a member. Alberta was an Order of Eastern Star member for 75 years and Past Worthy Matron of Sharon Springs Chapter No 381. In later years, the Sharon Springs chapter closed and the members became part of the Goodland chapter. She leaves to mourn: Son Rex and wife Carol and granddaughters Mackenzie and Morgan; Son Max and grandchild Jesse and wife Beth, and great grandchildren Chasen, Aspen, Westin and Mason; Grandchild Jennifer and husband Brenton; In-laws Frances Maricle of Goodland, KS; Shirley Waugh of Arvada, CO; Gerry Waugh of Slaton, TX; John Fister of Tacoma, WA; Minnie Ellen Hoss McAllister of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews. Immediate family preceding her in death are her husband Arthur, her parents, six brothers, Earl and wife Margaretta, Floyd and wife Willa, Vernon, Glenn and Lyle, Roy and wife Dottie. Three sisters, Dorothy Hennick and husband Phil; Mable Tiff and husband Fred; and Iva Gay and husband Cecil; one nephew Phil and wife Pat. The Waugh side preceded her in death. Father and Mother Waugh; five sisters-in law Edna Akers and husband Elmer, Georgia Doop and husband Harvey, Marion Vincent and husband Dick, Dorothy Waugh, and Gene Fister; and brothers-in-law Alan Waugh and wife Leota, Elmer Waugh, Edward Waugh and wife Imogene, John Waugh, and Robert Waugh and wife Shirley.
