Obituary of Lorraine Mary Heinz

Lorraine Mary (Laudick) Heinz died May 4th, 2022, at Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells, CO. She was born April 29, 1923, in Belfont KS to John Laudick and Emma (Klenke) Laudick. The family moved to Spearville KS when Lorraine was a child where she attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and Spearville High School. As a child of depression, Lorraine helped her family financially by doing various tasks like cleaning houses, doing a paper route and working at her uncle’s mercantile/grocery story. After high school she worked at the Ford County Courthouse in Dodge City KS. She went on to work for Jones Insurance company. Lorraine met Ronald Heinz in February 1947 and they married December 30, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In the spring of 1948, they moved to Cheyenne Wells, CO where Ronald and his brother were farming. To the marriage, 5 children were born: Nancy, Ronald Jr., Thomas, Paula and Lauri. Lorraine was a homemaker and farm wife – meaning she did it all for everybody. Ronald and Lorraine farmed and ranched south of town until 1987 when they built a new home in town. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary prior to Ronald’s death. Lorraine was active in ESA sorority, Altar and Rosary society, 4H, Future Farmers and Homemakers, and long-time volunteer at the local hospital and nursing home. She loved to sew and bake, making dresses and decorating cakes for every occasion and holiday for family members and the nursing home. We all looked forward to what cake Mom would make for our birthdays – baseball glove, prized calf, butterfly, train – she always looked for new ideas. She made 1st communion cakes for all her children and grandchildren. We’ll always remember the orange blazers she made for Ron and Tom and several other boys in high school. Lorraine took up painting ceramics, meeting weekly with a group for years. She gifted many items to family and friends – vases, Christmas decorations, chess sets. Lorraine made baptismal garments for over 40 years, volunteered at the nursing home until she was 90.
