Lonnie Hendrickson

Obituary of Lonnie E. Hendrickson

On August 26Th 1961 Lonnie Edwin Hendrickson was born to Edwin and Marlyne Hendrickson in Cheyenne Wells, CO

Lonnie attended school his whole life right here in Cheyenne Wells Co, graduating in 1979. Upon graduating Lonnie continued working full time at Hendrickson family farms. He loved working there, it was his passion. He traveled with his dad on harvest starting in Alva Oklahoma cutting their way back through Kansas and ending back home usually around the 4th of July.

On September 29th 1979 Lonnie married his high school sweetheart Serena Kampf to this union 4 children were born Billie Joy (1980) Tawnie Leeann (1982) Jessica LaDan (1988) Joshua James Edwin (1994).

Lonnie worked on the farm until 1981 then went to work for Jim Renner on Murphin Rig. 14. Lonnie worked on the rig, farm, and East Side Service.

Then Lonnie moved his family out to the farm in 1985 and began working there full time again, as his dad was very sick and passed away.

Lonnie enjoyed taking his family on short trips to Colorado Springs and Manitou and one family vacation to South Dakota. Lonnie was a very hardworking man and took great pride in his work ethic. He felt he shouldn’t be gone from the farm for very long so we never went on long trips.  Lonnie enjoyed swimming and seeing the sites in the Springs.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, tractor pulls and fast cars, and as everyone knows he drove fast everywhere he went.

Lonnie and Serena spent lots of enjoyable time at the lake with Delta and Rayme Kern, Jerry and Anita Poggendorf, Calvin and Suzanne Bogenhagen and Serena’s Parents. When it came to telling jokes he could tell them for hours and never tell the same one twice. He was quite a jokester.

Lonnie spent lots of time with Cassie and Keith Pelton teaching them all kinds of things. He also had Myron and Eldon Pelton help during harvest and continually picked on Jamie and Jeri but he truly loved them all. Lonnie also hired the young high school boys to work out at the farm and he also taught Misty, Billy, and Tawnie how to drive the combine during harvest and help at the farm. Most all the farm and ranch work was truly a family affair.

Lonnie also helped his children and others in 4-H and became a 4-H leader for a while.

Lonnie was a very good mechanic and welder, he also loved to work on the combines.  He was a jack of all trades and could literally fix anything.

In 1993 Lonnie was baptized at the Christian Church. He enjoyed building houses in Mexico (Casa por Cristo) through the Christian Church. He took his children and others to church camp and loved spending time learning about God.

Lonnie was a man of many sorrows and difficulties and these difficulties took him from his family for 20 years. During those years he learned many different things and was certified in many different areas. It was there that not only did Lonnie know Jesus, Jesus knew him.

Lonnie became an inspiration to many a men in prison and guided many more to Yashewa, something  he was very proud of.

Lonnie came back home to Cheyenne Wells in 2016 where he wanted to become a better grandpa and Dad.  He spent most of his off time doing just that. He did all kinds of special things with his family.  He purchased a pontoon where he spent lots of family time at the lake, going to the P.B.R., monster truck jams, BBQs and birthdays and some long overdue time.

Lonnie passed away on Sunday, September 8th at 6:30 in an ambulance EnRoute to Denver Colorado. His untimely death brought an end to all this.

Lonnie is preceded in his death by his parents.

He is survived by his children Billie (Ray) Cozart, Tawnie (Bo) Baeza, Jessica (Victor) Garay, and Josh (Blanca) Hendrickson, all of Cheyenne Wells, his 8 Grandchildren, a sister Pam (Mark) Walters, a brother in law Ralph Stansbury and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
