Obituary of John Edward Bandy

John Edward Bandy was born on September 17, 1944 to Eulas “Bob” and Viola (Schuker) Bandy in Limon, Colorado. On July 10, 2017 in Hugo, Colorado John went home to his Lord and Savior. John grew up in Hugo, Colorado where he attended school until he graduated in 1963. After high school, John attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, followed by the University of Northern Colorado where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. In 1966 John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was a radio operator and repairman, and received honors for good conduct as well as marksmanship. He was honorably discharged in December of 1968. Forty-nine years later, John could still remember Morse code. In 1965 John married the love of his life Janet “Jan” Vassios. To this union came one son, Scott Bandy. John raised his son in Hugo where he served as industrial arts teacher, class sponsor, student council sponsor, guidance counselor and coached wrestling, assisted with coaching football for 11 years he followed what he shared with his students to pursue your dreams and goals. He purchased the Lumber and Hardware Store and ran Mr. B's Lumber and Hardware for 26 years before retiring. In his spare time, you could count on John fishing, or wishing he was. Aside from fishing he enjoyed camping, woodworking, trap shooting, reading and spending time with family. John was an active member of his community. He was a member of the Hi-Plains Baptist Church, Hugo Lions Club, and even was a member of the Hugo Town Council. He served on the Hugo School Board and the Hugo Housing Authority and volunteered with the Boy Scouts as an assistant and advisor. John was preceded in death by his father Eulas Bandy, his brothers Robert and Curtis Bandy, as well as his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife Jan (Vassios) Bandy of Hugo, CO; his mother Viola Bandy of Hugo, CO; Son Scott (Deena) Bandy of Colby, KS; sister Janet Steinke of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren Kyle (Keegan) Bandy, Kirsten Bandy, and Keira Bandy all of Colby, KS; 3 great grandchildren Kalyssa, Lexi, and Khoen Bandy of Colby, KS, along with several nieces and nephews.
