Obituary of Elsie F. Lietzan

Elsie Fern Fahrenwald, daughter of Herman Joseph Fahrenwald and Ethel Cramer Fahrenwald, was born April 5, 1921 at Steele City Nebr. and died February 9, 2017 in Dalhart, Tex. with her family at her side. The youngest of five children, she received her education at Steele City, except second grade which was at a country school near Pilot Rock, Oregon. She graduated from high school at Steele City, Nebr. in 1938. She worked as a homemaker in several home and did babysitting where she was needed. During World War II, she ran a service station for her father. She also worked nights at a cafe. When the war ended, she married Arthur Lietzan, on Nov. 27, 1945 in Hanover, Kansas. She was baptized in the Catholic Church on March 25, 1949, and was confirmed on April 21, 1949. Elsie and Art moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colo. in June of 1949. Three children were born to this union, Jane Marie, Thomas Arthur, and Alan Dean. While the children were in school, she donated many hours of service doing sewing, typing, and altar wash for the nuns and the church. Many good times were had fishing with Art and Alan at Lake McCaughnahy and surrounding lakes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art, on Feb. 22, 1990, her son, Alan on May 6, 2005, her parents, three brothers and one sister. Also preceding her was a grandson, Austin Douglas Medford and a great grandson, Spencer Matthew. She was proud to be a cancer survivor. In the spring of 2010, she moved to the Legacy Assisted Living in Dalhart, Texas, to be closer to family. When she needed more care, she moved to Coon Memorial Home, where she spent her last days. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Jane Medford and husband, Jerry, of Dalhart, Tx. and her son, Tom of Sidney, Iowa. Also grandchildren, Kristina Thaxton of Amarillo, Tx., John Medford and BJ Medford of Dalhart, Tx. Great grandsons, Jordan Medford of Dalhart, Tx., Chase Thaxton of Naples, Italy, Chance Thaxton of Milton, Fla., and Clayton Medford of Denver, Colo.
